UPM’s AI Direction


The direction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is to drive automation of support processes, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen service quality assurance, and foster knowledge growth based on data and sound policy.

Successful AI implementation at UPM requires strategic collaboration from all stakeholders including the university community, industry partners, and society at large. AI solutions can be delivered through various approaches, including:

  • Subscription or licensing of existing technologies.
  • In-house development by UPM’s technical teams and researchers.
  • Upgrading and scaling innovations created by UPM talents and experts.

To ensure maximum impact, five (5) focus areas have been identified:

  1. Administration – automation of routine tasks, enhanced security, intelligent customer service, and data analytics for decision-making.
  2. Education – adaptive learning, automated assessment, AI-driven student support, and plagiarism detection.
  3. Agriculture & Biodiversity – advanced farm management, biodiversity monitoring, and intelligent resource management.
  4. Medicine & Health – AI-assisted diagnostics, patient monitoring, preventive healthcare, and health data management.
  5. Talent Development & Culture – improving AI literacy, building new skills, and fostering an innovation-driven work culture.

Through planned and inclusive implementation, UPM aspires to be a leader in AI adoption within the higher education sector, contributing to national and regional progress.
